Dear Parent/Guardian of Hoover Senior:

As a parent/guardian of a prospective graduate of the Class of 2023, we are all looking forward to your student participating in senior activities, culminating with Commencement June 14, 2023. To ensure that your student is eligible to participate in all end-of-year senior activities, including Commencement, we want you to be clear about eligibility requirements so you can ensure your student meets them.

In order to receive a diploma, your student must meet the following requirements.

  • Complete 44 credits in required courses and pass with a D or higher by June 9, 2023
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA
  • Complete senior exit survey
  • All books, computers and chargers, athletic/ROTC uniforms returned to the library or fines paid in full.

In order to walk in Commencement and participate in senior activities—like Prom, Senior Breakfast, and Awards Assembly—, your student must meet the following requirements:

  • Be eligible to receive a diploma or a Certificate of Completion
  • Clear senior year truancies, unverified or unexcused absences three weeks before school is dismissed (May 24, 2023)*
  • Maintain a 2.0 Citizenship GPA
  • No suspensions in the second semester *
  • Not be involved in any case of Academic Dishonesty during senior year
  • No five day suspensions during the school year
  • No involvement in senior pranks
  • Complete any iHigh courses needed to meet graduation requirements by June 8, 2023.
  • All books, athletic/ROTC uniforms returned to the library or fines paid in full

* Note that with starred items, students may be eligible to appeal for the right to walk and participate in senior activities. The Hoover Appeal Board will hear the case and determine if the student can participate.

Participation in senior activities, including Commencement, is a privilege not a right. We look forward to including your student in all senior activities, but they must meet requirements to be included. In addition, sometimes circumstances arise beyond your control; please be in contact with your student’s teachers and counselor about any issue in your student’s life that may affect attendance and/or grades and therefore eligibility to participate in senior activities and Commencement. We want to ensure a successful year for your student and will make every effort to support your student during his/her senior year.

Please take time to discuss the contents of this letter with your student so that all are aware of the expectations. The time to be concerned about participation in senior activities and Commencement is now, not the last three weeks of the school year. This form must be signed and returned today in order for your student to participate in any senior activity. We look forward to working with you and sharing the joys of your student’s senior year of high school and will notify you of specific dates of senior activities as soon as they are available.
